The "Tough Guy Name Dropping" PE Teacher

Dear Sir,

I am a teacher in the Temecula Valley Unified School District (Temecula Valley Middle School). I have been teaching self-defense in PE for over 20 years (an act not authorized in the State of California by the way). I have been a blackbelt in Shorin ryu since 1983. Studied Muay Thai for 3 years in the early 1980's-at Cal State University San Bernardino under Master Chai Sirusite-one of Dan Inosanto's close personal friends. My blackbelt was awarded by Prof. Tony Gneck, the same man who promoted Bill "Superfoot" Wallace to shodan in 1967. Here is my concern: How can you say that sparring is not included in your program, yet say it is combat oriented? We sparred for hundreds of hours "playing karate tag" in the 70's-but the real eye open was when Master Chai brought over his tean from thailand to really "spar." with our blackbelts. Needless to say, we were run off the mats by the Thai boxers, who blasted us with shin kicks, knees and elbows. When one is entangled in a clinch and then promptly hit with an "upper-cut elbow", one learns about "true" combat! I have studied Japanese Juitsu as well and have performed Waza and Kata in one, two and three step scenarios-from koshi nage to te kubi shima waza and I must say emphatically-that unless one gets to Randori, one does not know Ju Jitsu. I teach practical self defense "no dancing allowed" to my students and have controlled sparring sessions to develop the athletic components of: timing, balance, speed, reaction-time, hand-foot coordination ect.... I hold a M.S. in Kinisiology and would like to debate you on the merits of a "Combat" without Randori mentality.

P.s. teaching the sword? Why not teach the 9mm?

I prefer to keep it "Kara" "Te"

Sincerly, Marlowe Kame

Obviously Mr. Kame has not visited the entire website and he's beginning to sound like the "I know you are but what am I" kid. All errors in spelling and grammar are those of the writer... I just cut and paste. ;)
