This is a program for those who are
seeking the health and toning benefits of Chi Gong and T'ai Chi Ch'uan without the
rigors of combat training. However, all Martial Elements and Applications are
examined and taught to increase the students understanding of T'ai Chi Ch'uan and
provide them with an excellent and effective self-defense system.

What is Tai Chi Chuan?
Tai Chi Chuan or Grand Ultimate
Fist in its translation, is a very physical martial art and self defense style best known for its
slow, purposeful and fluid movements as well as it's relaxation and meditative qualities. It is
considered an "Internal" art because of it's focus on cultivating Chi and not meeting force with
force when dealing with confrontation in any aspect of one's life as compared to purely physical or
"External" martial arts where athleticism is the main focus.
What Tai Chi Can Do For You
This art has been extensively
researched and a study by Emory University documented Tai Chi's role in enhancing balance and helping the elderly
avoid dangerous falls (mainly due to Tai Chi's focus on footwork and weight transition). Other studies show that
Tai Chi training significantly reduces joint stiffness, improves range of motion and balance in those suffering from
osteoarthritis. Increasingly, doctors are recommending the practice of Tai Chi to their patients. The National
Multiple Sclerosis Society now recommends Tai Chi training for patients suffering from MS due to the fact that more
conventional forms of exercise often exacerbate their symptoms. Many other studies have shown that Tai Chi's meditative
and breathing training may lower blood pressure, benefit lung function, improve one's cholesterol profile to help prevent
heart disease, increase bone density (an important benefit to women and the elderly), improve circulation, improve
circulation to the joints which eases the pain of arthritis, and reduce stress. The Chi Gong exercises within Tai Chi
Chuan can significantly contribute to weight loss and are excellent for the relief of back pain.
